Makeshift Bikes is a small, scrappy bike shop and community space in the Northside, located at 431 E. Ohio St. Come in for tune ups and general repairs as well as other bike needs! We have limited used bikes for sale, changing often/as time allows. The class schedule has been discontinued at this time, but still happy to schedule. Reach out if you want to learn more about working on your own bike.
DIY stand use available- free for members, $5-10 suggested for non-members, especially if you need help!
This project existed in shifting capacity for almost seven years before moving into our space on E. Ohio. We worked out of different places, a lot of that time as a pop-up repair stand, but at every stage dedicated to bike repair in the Northside and helping folks interested in learning more about maintaining their bikes. We have had support from the Community Garden in the Allegheny Commons and the YMCA, as well as many individuals, like Mitchell Schwartz who gave us space in the garage at Hip at the Flashlight Factory for a year and a half. We’re excited to be here doing the bike shop thing!
In addition to repairing bicycles and promoting their use, we are focused on reuse, hands-on teaching, and strive to offer affordable services.
Makeshift does not buy, but gladly accepts donations of bikes and parts. A limited selection of used bikes are available for sale, check used bike page, call or stop by to see what we have at the moment.
